Commodity- Things you buy and use.

  • Where people buy certain things to define who they are.
  • Process of applying a phantom like quality to an object.

Marxism- Working class being oppressed by the rich.

  • First page tells us that people in Sao Paulo only have water for 3hrs a day and pollution and other factors are causing epidemics of illness.
  • This also tells us that people in Sao Paulo are not only putting their health at risk but putting peoples education as well.
  • The second page shows an ad to a Zucchetti tap which the cheapest costs £170.
  • This is a binary opposition as one depicts poverty and the other depicts wealth.
  • The first page focuses on the people conveyed through the model in the bath but the second page focuses on the designer/money through the image of the Zucchetti tap.
  • The running water in the second page also suggests the rich don't care about poverty and that they abuse the privileges they have.
  • The tap is being fetishised.
  • Zuchetti is a high end luxury brand.
  • The womans hands may be a proiretic code suggesting she's praying for water.
  • The text at the bottom anchors this image to not make the women be sexualised.
  • The image is atypical/subversive of a stereotypical women.
