  • Models hairless look is hegenomically accosiated with women giving him a more femenine sex appeal therefore making him appear more homoerotic.
  • The diametric opposition between his hairles body yet masculine phsyic makes the model appeal to both male and female audiences.
  • The models sunkissed tanned look is a stereotype of what both gay men or women are attracted too- tall dark and hansome.
  • The models 'sweaty' appearance is a proiretic code for the 'after sex' look enhancing his sex appeal.
  • The tattoo connotes the 'bad boy' sterotype which plays to both gay men and womens fantasies.
  • The mise en scene of the models white underwear creates a binary opposition between the models skin tone. Drawing the attention to the models genitals further reinforcing the homoerotic ideology.
  • The colour of his underwear is white which typically connotes purity therefore this creates another diametric opposition as the model is almost naked and emphasisises his sex appeal with his homoerotic stance/pose.
  • The model facial expressions is a proiretic code for sex with his slighty pursed lips and closed eyes.
  • The models titlted head exposes his neck further anchoring the ideology of sex and lust.

  • This model represents gay men to be hyersexual as well as hegenomically attractive to gay men as well as women.
  • This model more likely represents the stereotye ofwhat gay men are attracted to rathr than what a typical gay man looks like.
  • This suggests that gay men are attracted to muscular and potentially stariaight looking men.
  • This also suggetst the hyperreal expecation gay men want in a man as well as what women want.
  • This suggestst that gay men are very hypersexual/ what they expect gay men are like.
  • This post may anchor gay men to think that this is what they should be attracted to or this is what they have to appear like to attaract men.
  • Gay men also may feel they have to have sex appeal and be hypersexual to get attention from other men.
  • However gay men may have an oppositional reading and recognise that this is a hyperreal representation of a stereotypical gay male and women fantasy. They may reject this idea and think this model appears too maculine to be gay as he dosent ppesr 'camp'.

This image of Sam Smith presents him to be quite feminine and stereotypically gay. The mise en scene of his eyeliner gives him a sultry apperance, paired with his direct mode of address makes him appear seductive. Makeup is socially hegemonic with women therefore with a male wearing makeup suggests his not masculine and rather feminine reinforicing the ideology that only gay men wear makeup. His seductive direct mode of address suggests that he is enticing which is a stereotype of gay men that they try and 'steal' straight men. Sam's one risen hand connotes attitude which is another stereotype for a gay man reinforcing the ideology that he is camp. This image anchors the audience to adopt the ideology that gay men are hyperfeminine and suggets they are seductive in nature to almost replace a straight mans women. This image may encourage gay men to think they need to wear makeup to be gay. However this could generate an oppositional reading as gay men may be offended with the ideology that gay men have to wear makeup/be hyperfeminine.

This image from the 'Queer Eye' atricle presents gay men to be professional. This ideology is anchored through the mise en scene of the black and white colour palette. The black and white colour is a symbolic code for sophistication and strength as well as the colours creating a diametric opposition between the LGBTQ flag. This suggests that the producers are tryingto re-invent the stereotype accosiated with gay men and break the hegemonic norms to how gay men are represented in the media. This image is tying to reinforce the ideology that gay men can look like your 'average joe' and dont have to 'look' gay to be gay. This also anchors the audience to adopt the ideology that gay men dont have to be 'camp' or be hyperfeminie to be a 'typical' gay man. This could generate a positive impact for the target audience as younger men may feel better about their sexuaity from seeing this post. Gay men may also feel that they are fully being presented without the hyperreal representation.
