Jungle cruise trailer article.

  • In what ways are gay men represented in this article?
In this article gay men are represented to be the token character. In the trailer Jack Whitehall doesn't have any lines and is barely shown. What you can see of him is he is dressed very smart almost over dressed for the situation which links to the idea of himbeing very camp. Being camp suggestst that gay men are over the top and dramatic so therefore their dress sense is too.
  • In what ways are the gay male audience positioned in this article?
The gay male audience are positioned as the 'one in the back'. Jack Whitehalls character is seen always hiding behind someone in the trailer and the article photo. Gay men are positined to be scared and not brave an to rely on the more masculine figure Dwayne johnsons character.
  • For what reasons are Disney including a gay character in their film?
I think disney is including a gay charcater to appeal to the audiences with how popular and relevent the LGBTQ+ community is now becomming. Its obvious from the trailer that Jack whitehalls charcter is barely noticable. I feel a gay charcter is used as a prootion for the film to generate audince appeal and to create a large audience.
  • A quote in the article suggests Jack Whitehall's character will be “hugely effete, very camp and very funny”. What assumptions about gay men are being made here?
This quote from the article suggests that gay men are a comedic value to films. It anchors the ideology that gay men are all camp and therefore funny. This also assumes that gay men will be represented fully in this film however from the trailer this is not true. This also anchors the sterwotypical ideology of gay men which is that they are weak and are capable of dong anything actully effective.
