How does media language create meaning in this poster?


In this poster Wonder woman is the main focus as she is placed in the 2nd third. She represents power and bravery which is conveyed by her holding a sword. The sword is an example of a symbolic code as it symbolises someone who is a warrior/ superhero. Wonder woman is an archetype as she isn't the 'stereotypical' women shown in media products. The ideology of woman shown within the media is that women are typically weak, submissive and are usually sexualised. However, Wonder woman's ideology is shown that she is dominant, strong and powerful. The producer wants to present the ideology that woman can be superheroes as well as men. In the background of this poster there is a male figure who is presented as less important as he is behind wonder woman. This gives the ideology that men aren't as strong or as brave as women as he is 'hiding' behind wonder woman. Wonder woman looks as if there is a 'halo' above her which is a symbolic code as it shows she is good character and not malicious. This also presents binary opposition as the male character is surrounded by dull clouds which presents a hermeneutic and symbolic code as clouds can symbolise mystery as well as uncertainty. Wonder woman is dress in red, blue and gold whereas the male figure is dressed in all white.
