stream media.

  • What kind of magazines do Stream publish?
- Travel.
- Gay Lifestyle.
- Fashion.
-Cooking.
-Food.
- Cars.
  • What similarities do these magazines have to Attitude?
- This magazine seems to target a very stereotypical and simpe audience by presenting stereotypical interests of gay men and women ie. cooking, fashion and travelling.
- Stream states they have gay writers meaning they support the LGBTQ+ community.
- They include thumbnails to there article posts.
- Both online sites have a simple colour scheme.
  • Does Stream target a niche or a diverse range of readers?
- I believe Stream targets gay men and women as the magazine they prodominantly publish on their site is travelling, lifestyle and cooking.
- They could have a secondary readers of heterosexual men as Stream do publish magazines about cars. This is a stereotype for straight men.
  • What kind of website is this, and who is the target audience? BIG HINT! Think back to the IPC/Time Media website when we studied Woman...
- I think the target audience is gay men and women aged 30-50 years old.
- The website is an advert for their client magazines.
- Stream I think aims its content for people who have a larger expandable income like IPC  for people that have more professional jobs and are well educated.
  • What does Stream own? Does this make it vertically or horizontally integrated?
-  Stream owns Attitude and has the rights to Winq which is another gay magazine.
- Stream is now Vertically intergrated as Stream is the Publisher and Attitude writes the content of the magazine so Stream bought a company thats in a different stage proccess of production.
- Stream bought Attitude to eliminate competition.
  • Attitude's website was only launched in 2016. Why did the magazine wait so long to create a website?
- Attitude waited as they didn't know how successful it would be. If they have a low readership then developing a website which costs would be pointless as people who know about the website are the people who buy the magazines.
- Both the magazine and site are aimed at a pre-sold audience so if the magazine wasn't successful than the site wouldn't be needed.
- The site now only exists for an advertisement for the magazine however it allows the audience to read articles and get a feel of the content before comitting to buying the physical magazine.

Why did Stream buy Attitude?

Stream bought Attitude to become vertically integrated which eliminates the risk of competition yet maxamises audiences ( David Hesmondhalgh). By doing so Stream now owns 2 gay lifestyle magazines not only Attitude but Winq so both successful magazines are controlled by Stream generating a larger profit (Curran and Seaton). Stream now has power over both influential magazines to there audiences which again links to Curran and Seaton's theory that Stream only want power and profit rather than what the magazines actully represnt, linking to the lack of variety and quality as both magzines have already gained large readerships.
