Mini Mock.

In this mock i will be writing about how Woman magazine presents women and how that reflects the era it was made.

The model on the cover of Woman magazine is an "image" of what women should be. Her hair is quite conservative which is how Women were to be seen/viewed as in the 1960s. Her hair also indicates that perhaps she's middle aged making her a idol for the target audience. The masthead is in serif font which connotes elegance and is also symbolic of how women should be. The miss en scene of the models costume resembles the 'housewife' character as, the pastel colours has connotations of flowers. Flowers are a symbol of beauty which suggests that women should look as beautiful as a flower as well as obtain a calm nature. The direct mode of address from the model also function as the housewife stereotype as she's welcoming the audience. The removal of blemishes, eye-bags and wrinkles through the use of airbrushing suggests that she is an inspirational figure to women. Her airbrushed white teeth connotes health and confidence which anchors women to want to follow the housewife ideology to please men. The caption "lingerie goes lively" is a binary opposition to what conservative women should be like. This suggest what men want yet what women shouldn't portray. The word "Kitchen" is lager than the word "lingerie" which indicates that women's duty in the kitchen is more important than sex. The rhetorical question functions as a proiretic code that suggests that the working class audience aren't an "a-level beauty".

An article in this magazine advertising breeze soap reflects Lisbet Van Zoonen's theory of objectifying women. The stereotypically good looking model is again used as a figure to what women should be like to impress men. She is naked yet "put" together which makes women to be inspired by her beauty and to become like her women need to buy breeze. This ad suggests that men don't think women smell good and is emphasised through "darling. please, bath with breeze.". This ad also suggests women are concerned with feeling fresh and smelling good. This furthermore indicates that men smell good or aren't concerned with felling fresh through "Because your a women...".  Its clear this is objectifying women and this ad is made to construct women to be what men desire.
