Why is representation and why is it important?
Representation is a re-presentation of a producers ideologies in a media product.
- Every media product needs representation for financial gain.
- Representations need to gain audience appeal.
- Representations are used to anchor the audience into adopting their views.
- Representations of stereotypes allow audiences to relate and identify with characters.
- Shortcut for producer and save time in developing characters.
- Allows producer to manipulate audience for them to adopt their ideologies.
- Manipulate the ideologies of the audience to reinforce the messages we have in society.
- Stereotypical representations limit the visibility of certain groups in society.
Structuring paragraph on representation:
- The group, place or issues on which media product is focusing.
- The media language the media product uses in order to present these groups or issues.
- The ideological perspective about the group or issue being created within the product.
- The impact of this ideological perspective on the target audience.
A promotional image are images that are apart/not in the show yet are used to sell the show.

Camille is a teenage girl.
The selection of actor look younger than what her real age is which is done on purpose.
The mise en scene of the yellow flowers create a diametric opposition compared to her dark outfit reflects life and death.
The image presents direct mode of address and hse appears grumpy and dissatisfied.

We know shes middle class through her clothes which suggest she has a white collar job.
She appears tired and worn out.
She is an atypical representation of a middle aged women.

Simon is a male young adult.
He is presented as very serious.
He wears a leather jacket which has connotations of rebellion.
Dark hair and dark eyes reflects he has a dark past/personality.
Simon takes on the role of antagonist as well as the hot guy.
Stereotypical good looking french guy.
Token character.
Gives the audience ideas on how men should behave to be a bad boy.
Simon reinforces hegemonic views of attractiveness.

Julie is a middle class young adult.
You could argue that she is hegemonically attractive.
She is a more relatable character.
She resists sexualisation with her lack of makeup, lack of trendy fashion and scruffy hair.
She subverts stereotypes of women.
Les Revenants cast picture.
They are TV 'ugly'.
They're not hegemonically attractive.
Its subversive for tv in general but typical for cult tv.
There is a binary opposition formed through the mundane looking cast and the plot.
The fantastical elements presented in a normal world.
There all white!!
France is known to be less accepting of other cultures and ethnicities.
This lives up to the conventions to horror films.
Lacks totem black character.
They are all universally middle class.
Symbolic annihilation- No black people.
